Disappointment in Dallas?

The Cowboys had a fantastic 2016-2017 campaign. Going 13-3 in the regular season behind two rookies. Ezekiel Elliott was a stud at Ohio State. Going into the 2016 draft I think most people thought Elliott was going to be good, but wasn't sure who was going to have the guts to take him in the top-10. Especially in recent years people have been more in favor of waiting to take a running back in later rounds, while still getting adequate value. Jerry Jones decided to step up to the plate and take the Ohio State tailback number 4 overall. With Romo falling, America’s team was in need for a new shot caller. Prescott had a phenomenal career at Mississippi State. Dak put the bulldogs back in contention and wining an Egg Bowl in 2013. Even with all the stats and good seasons, Dak

wasn't considered the most NFl- ready quarterback in the class. Goff and Wentz were the headliners, and Lynch and Hackenberg were the second tier in 2016. Oh, who doesn't love Christian Hackenberg. Finally, in the fourth round with the 135th overall pick the Cowboys selected Prescott. Dak Prescott won the starting job over Romo and the sports world was shocked, The all-mighty Cowboys were going to have two rookies In the backfield, and one of them was a fourth round draft pick. In week 1 the Cowboys lost a tight one to start the season. After that, Dak went on a tear winning the next six games.

Week 8 was one I remember clearly. The game was on Sunday night and went to the wire. Throughout the game I was thinking to myself how 134 picks went by with no one picking Prescott. Now, I still think Carson Wentz is a much better quarterback, but that is an argument for another day. The “Boys” went on to win that nail-biter in overtime. They went on to finish the 13-3. Now, they were bound to choke in the postseason with no experience in a playoff setting in the backfield. So, looking back the Cowboys were way better than any expectations, but they needed to get better. In my opinion the offensive line made Prescott and Elliot look much better than they actually are. This offseason Elliott has had multiple incidents at nightclubs and has a minor suspension looming. These incidents have shown Elliot’s immaturity and lack of self-responsibility to handle fame. The Dallas Cowboys lost three key pieces this offseason in Leary, Free, and Claiborne. The only real pickups they have acquired are Charlton, a rookie pass rusher, and Nolan Carroll. I have watched over 20 games of Nolan Carroll, and he is not a cornerback you want to rely on in your secondary. This upcoming season will test the mindset and toughness of the new stars in Dallas.
